THE REAL FRUIT

In Galatians, Paul writes "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is now law" (Galatians 5:22-23). Did you know that there is a counterfit version of each of these? In Timothy Keller's commentary on Galatians, he outlines the true meaning of each of these attributes as well as their counterfeits. We've made this chart to easily compare the difference in each.

Remember, bearing fruit requires abiding in Christ as our source (John 15:4-5). This begins with being crucified with Christ (Romans 6:3-7) - our old self dies so we can walk in newness of life. This transformation happens in a moment but matures gradually over time, like a vine planted to wine in a bottle taking four years to develop.
