Are You Ready to Leave the Wilderness?

The book of Numbers is much more than a record of Israel’s journey through the wilderness. It’s a mirror of our own hearts. Again and again, God’s people complained, doubted, rebelled, and wanted to turn back. Yet just as consistently, God remained faithful. He provided food, water, protection, mercy, and a way forward.
Their two-week journey became forty years—not because God failed them, but because they struggled to trust Him. The wilderness became the place where the old generation passed away so that new life could enter the Promised Land.
That backdrop makes Jesus’ question in John 5 especially powerful.
At the Pool of Bethesda, Jesus meets a man who has been unable to walk for thirty-eight years—the same length of time Israel wandered after refusing to trust God. The man has exhausted every effort. His words are heartbreaking: “I have no one.” He has reached the end of himself.
Then Jesus asks, “Do you want to be healed?”
It’s the same question He asks each of us.
So often we spend our energy trying harder, controlling outcomes, or proving ourselves worthy. But God’s pattern has always been different. From the tabernacle to the cross, salvation is never something we achieve—it is something we receive. Christ has already done what we never could.
The Exchanged Life reminds us that the Christian life isn’t about asking Jesus to help us live for Him. It’s about trusting Him to live His life through us. The old self doesn’t graduate into the Promised Land; only the new life Christ gives can enter.
As you begin a new week, you may be facing pressures at work, difficult relationships, uncertainty, or weariness. Instead of carrying those burdens in your own strength, bring them to Christ. The One who healed the man at Bethesda still meets people at the end of themselves. His invitation is the same today: trust Me.
You don’t have to strive for the life God offers. You simply have to receive it. Christ is enough—and His life in you is enough for whatever this week holds.
